Global Research & Training
Topic: Unit Level Data/Micro Data Extraction: Hands-on Experience
Organizer: Global Research & Training
Program overview:
In today's data-driven world, the ability to work with Unit Level Data (also known as Micro Data) is an essential skill for researchers, policymakers, and professionals across diverse fields. Microdata refers to highly detailed, disaggregated information collected from individuals, households, or businesses. Micro data provides specific information about each unit (e.g., income of an individual, household expenditure, or business revenue…etc.). This data provide granular insights, enabling informed decision-making and more accurate analysis.
The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI), Government of India (GoI), provides a rich collection of microdata from various national surveys, which serve as a valuable resource for research across multiple disciplines. This level of detail is invaluable for evidence-based policy-making, enabling policymakers to design tailored interventions, identify needs, and evaluate the impact of programs on specific groups. Micro data also supports more accurate forecasting, scientific research, and cross-disciplinary studies by providing flexibility for analyzing trends over time.
During this training, participants will work with several datasets provided by the MoSPI, GoI, including the Annual Survey of Industries (ASI), Index of Industrial Production (IIP), National Sample Survey (NSS), Household Consumer Expenditure Survey (HCES), Economic Census, Enterprises Surveys, Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS), Employment and Unemployment data, Land and Livestock Holding Surveys… etc.

Time: 1:00 PM - 5:00 PM IST
Date: April 20th, 2025
Time: 3:00 PM - 6:00 PM IST
Mode: Online (Google Meet)
Fees:
Indian Participants: 499 INR
International Participants: 10 USD
Who Should Attend?
This training is ideal for Students, Research Scholar, Early-Career Researchers, Professionals and enthusiasts who are interested in data-driven analysis. This session will be highly beneficial for those who are looking to utilize India's rich statistical datasets for academic and policy-oriented research.
Why Attend?
Participants across the discipline will learn the skills to extract unit-level data from publicly available datasets like those provided by MoSPI. They will gain practical knowledge and hands-on experience in extracting microdata, which is an invaluable skill for academic research, policy formulation, and evidence-based decision-making.
