Global Research & Training is pleased to announce an in-depth, hands-on online training program on Mastering the Annual Survey of Industries Unit-Level Data: A Complete Guide to Essential Skills. This session will provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of ASI microdata and equip them with a robust skill set for working with industrial data at the micro level. Through practical demonstrations, participants will learn techniques ranging from basic to advanced.
Organizer: Global Research & Training
Topic: Mastering the Annual Survey of Industries Unit-Level Data: A Complete Guide to Essential Skills
Program Overview:
In today's data-driven world, the ability to work with Unit-Level Data (also known as Microdata) is an essential skill for researchers, policymakers, and professionals across various fields. ASI Microdata refers to highly detailed, disaggregated information collected from firm registered under Factory Act 1948 and the Bidi and Cigar Workers (Conditions of Employment) Act 1966. It provides specific information about each unit (e.g., number of factories, operated factories, inputs, outputs, gross value of plant and machinery, fixed capital, working capital, workers, wages, fuel consumed, etc.). These granular insights enable informed decision-making and more accurate analysis.
The Mastering the Annual Survey of Industries (ASI) Unit-Level Data training program is designed to provide participants with an in-depth understanding of the essential skills required to work with ASI microdata. The session will guide participants through every step of the process involved in handling ASI unit-level data, from ASI microdata extraction to constructing variable’s quantity. It will cover ASI microdata extraction, the National Industrial Classification (NIC) 2008, concepts and definitions, questionnaire, data layout, code lists, file merging, reshaping data, tabulation programs, applying weights for accurate analysis, and cross-verifying results with official reports.
Program Details:
Date: May 10th - 11th, 2025
Time: 6:00 PM to 8:30 PM IST
Platform: Google Meet
Program Fees:
For Indian Participants: ₹1000 INR
For Intenational Participants: $12 USD
Who Should Attend?
This training is ideal for students, research scholars, early-career researchers, faculty members, professionals, and anyone interested in gaining a deeper understanding of ASI unit-level data. It will be especially beneficial for those wishing to leverage the statistical ASI datasets from MoSPI, Government of India, for academic research, policy analysis, or data-driven decision-making. Whether you’re new to ASI microdata or looking to refine your existing skills, this session will provide valuable insights into handling complex industrial datasets.
Why Attend?
ASI microdata is one of India’s most important datasets for industrial statistics. Joining this online training program offers participants from various disciplines the unique opportunity to master the essential skills needed to extract and construct ASI microdata from publicly available datasets like those provided by MoSPI, Government of India. By the end of this training, participants will gain hands-on experience with practical demonstrations on how to extract ASI microdata and construct variable quantities effectively for academic research, policy formulation, and evidence-based decision-making.
